Palliser Health Region Perinatal Education Programs

Staff working in Palliser health Region provide care to antepartum, laboring mothers, postpartum, newborns and gynecological surgical clients. Labour and Delivery units in the region welcome approximately 1300 babies into the world each year. If the baby's health is compromised then a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with specialized personnel is ready to take care of the high risk neonate.

Family involvement and room-in process is strongly encouraged to faciliate the bonding process. Client teaching and particpation is a high priority, as well as continuity of health supervision involving the collaboration of health professionals/agencies throughout the Region. In addition to concerns for physical health needs of the mother and her newborn, the staff are also sensitive to the client's social, spiritual, emotional and educational needs at all times. A variety of education programs are available to assist staff to provide optimum care to families. These programs are MOREob, ACORN, STORC, and NRP.
