USEFULLNESS OF ABOVE WEBSITES

Each of the above mentioned websites have been immensely helpful for me in various ways. My most preferred and used search engine is Google™ (www.google.com). For me, Google™ can find anything, from images to text related materials to different websites. It can also search different directories and I can even read the news on Google™. I use Google™ most frequently as it helps me to find information related to my university assignments and other online searching. Google™ is my top rated search engine. Another search engine, Lycos (www.lycos.com) is also useful for me as using Lycos I can find lots of information from the World Wide Web, the latest world news and also search shopping websites. I specially enjoy browsing for shops and stores using Lycos Shopping search. Search.com (www.search.com) is another interesting search engine designed to give its visitors a wide range of products and services to choose from. It can search from online Yellow Pages and I think that this is one speciality of Search.com. A very useful search engine for finding people, businesses and areas is WhitePages.com (www.whitepages.com). Using WhitePages.com, I can find people by searching from their telephone numbers and their addresses. I can also search through public records using this search engine. The other website that I often use for internet searching and browsing is Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com). Using Yahoo!, I can do safe online shopping, find suitable jobs, get information on travelling, find maps and also chat with my friends. Search engines such as AltaVista (www.au.altavista.com), ©HotBot (www.hotbot.com) and LookSmart.Australia™ (www.looksmart.com.au) has also been essential for me in similar ways as others. LookSmart.Australia™ and AltaVista have been very helpful for me as they provide information about products and services in Australia. For my university work, websites of my university, USQ, have been very important for me. USQ Search (www.usq.edu.au/search3.htm) has helped me to find out the details of my lecturers and tutors. It also assists to find services provided by USQ on – campus and has links to other websites, search engines and directories. USQ : Library (www.usq.edu.au/library) is very important to me and other students as it provides me with a thorough and detailed search of any books, texts, statistics or references that I may require. It tells me about the library, about the resources, about the library services, etc. The section that is most important to me is the USQ library catalogue. Through the library catalogue I can search for books and reference materials and also place online bookings for any item that I might require. These are ways how the above search engines are useful to me and specially for my university life.

MY CSC 1402 COURSE CURRICULUM

Foundation Computing (CSC 1402) has been a very interesting course for me in my first semester of university studies. Now I will talk about the things that I have learned in this course.

Firstly I learned about Microsoft® Word 2000. Over here, I got to know Word Processing, to work on Microsoft® Word, learn to do different things such as insert items, make headers and footers, make tables etc. I gained more knowledge about using Internet Explorer and gathered information about online resources. I have also learned about different computer concepts and networking basics. Here I got to know about system softwares, application softwares and connectivity of computers. I also learned about working on Microsoft® PowerPoint and graphics. I can now create slide shows using Microsoft® PowerPoint. I also got to work on Microsoft® Excel 2000 and learned about spreadsheet concepts. Now I can use Microsoft® Excel to create graphs and generate other calculations. I have gained knowledge of Web basics and internet applications.

Learning the above mentioned, has helped me in many ways and now I know more about computers, I am more confident of myself using computers.
