About Me

Ester Hendry

For the past two and a half years, I’ve been busy studying externally at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Here are the courses I chose:

Master of Applied Linguistics (Coursework)

LIN500        The Nature of Language

LIN8001      Principles of 2nd Language Learning

LIN5002      Methodology in Teaching a 2nd Language

LIN8007      Language Testing

LIN8005      Discourse Analysis

LIN8006      Computer-Assisted Language Learning

LIN5003      Syllabus Design and Material Writing

LIN8016      Internet-Based Language Instruction

In the past, I did Education courses such as the following:

-       Graduate Diploma in Education (Child Care) at USQ

-       Diploma in Teaching (Primary) also at USQ

-       Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (Philippines).

I used to teach primary school children in Manila, Philippines.  But now, I’m an Australian by marriage and Australia is my second home.  Although I stayed home to raise my two children, I continued to study to improve my teaching ability.

I believe in the nobleness of teaching in general as a career, guided by the principles of active learning or the constructivist theory, sociocultural theory and problem-based learning/teaching theory.

Currently, I’m interested in tutoring mature-aged migrant students who are learning English as a second language at a local TAFE college.  They are highly motivated learners trying hard to speak the target language for various reasons but mostly for social communication and to be able to function effectively in their new culture.
