It is with great pride and
pleasure that the Australian Nursing Council
announces a change of name to the Australian
Nursing and Midwifery Council.
resolution at the June 2004 Meeting of Council to
commence the process to change the name was passed
unanimously. The inclusion of Midwifery in the
title reflects the world wide trend to recognize
the profession of Midwifery as a distinct
discipline separate from nursing.
Council would like to thank the Australian
Midwives Inc and the former Australian Midwifery
Council staff for their assistance and advice
during the change of name process.
ANMC sends greetings to all Australian Midwives
and looks forward to working with you to progress
the agenda and recognition of Midwifery.
